The best philosophy I have ever heard (and wished I had thought of first) goes like this:
“Some do. Some don’t”
That’s it. Both call for action. Yes. there is action in not taking action. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad.
Are all things in our universe one way? Or, the other?
I think not. As a person who spends a lot of time straddling the fence, lurking in the gray area, life has not been without conflict. People on both sides strongly object to my apparent indecision.
I am not undecided. I am most assuredly decided – to stay in the middle. This is my ‘some don’t’ action. I will push for unity and agreement, not for discord and “I’m right. You’re wrong.”
My physical self, however, doesn’t cooperate when salsa and chips, In-and-Out Burgers and angel food cake topped with drizzled chocolate, whipped cream and strawberries are concerned.
No grey area here. It’s all in. With both hands. The test is to know when to stop. Know the consequences.
Denial is a river, dark and foreboding.
While you are using both hands, busy doing it, a good ‘it’ would be to chose little things that are good for you. Forget the rest. Go ahead. Eat cake. Every once in a while.
Don't miss Saturday's Sizzling Safe Summer at Almaden Valley Athletic Club. We're holding safety demonstrations. Whole Foods Markets Blossom Hill will be here. The Stanford Bloodmobile will be here (you could help save a life with your donation) or save your own life by learning simple ways to relax and have fun at the same time.
